Movie Night is the signature pass-the-pad mode that has shipped in every Dark Pictures game. Directive 8020 scales it up to five protagonists for the first time in the series — it's the most natural fit for the format yet.
How to start a Movie Night session
- From the main menu pick Movie Night.
- Add 2–5 player slots; type each player's name.
- Assign each player a primary protagonist (Brianna / Akin / Thomas / Naomi / Riley).
- Optionally assign secondary characters — useful with 2 or 3 players.
- The game pauses every time the active POV changes and prompts the correct player to take the controller.
How character assignment changes the run
- Whoever holds Brianna gets ~40% of total screen-time.
- Akin and Thomas split the next ~30%.
- Naomi and Riley share the remaining ~30%.
- Pre-assign the protagonist with the lowest mortality to your least confident player.
Tips for a great session
- Set up the room first. Drinks, lights low, controller cable long enough to reach all seats.
- House rule QTEs. Decide if backseat coaching is allowed — Supermassive's intent is no.
- One save. Movie Night uses a single save slot. Don't quit mid-chapter.
- Don't share spoilers. If anyone has played solo, keep them away from the choice prompts.
