Naomi

Naomi, Cassiopeia's science officer in Directive 8020. Backstory, the Episode 2 ridge choice, Episode 5 loadlifter QTE and how to keep her alive.

Naomi is the Cassiopeia's Chief Science Officer and the most analytical voice on the bridge. Almost every piece of in-universe exposition about the variant — the Episode 3 scan protocol, the Bearings premonition explanation in Episode 6, the probe telemetry that the captain has been hiding — passes through her. She is the protagonist whose death cuts the most lore from the campaign.

Backstory

Naomi joined the Directive 8020 mission from a deep-space exobiology programme that had been flagging Tau Ceti f's atmosphere as biologically unusual for nearly a decade before launch. She is one of only two crew members who has read the original probe telemetry — Akin being the other. That shared knowledge is the wedge the Episode 7 mutiny vote turns on. If Naomi is alive at Episode 6, her monologue gives Brianna the context she needs to choose 'Reveal' for the best ending.

Naomi's pivotal scenes

  • Episode 2 — antenna ridge. First lethal branch. Sending Naomi up rather than Riley shifts her into the Episode 5 loadlifter rescue slot.
  • Episode 3 — quarantine lab. Naomi drives the scan order (Akin → Naomi → Riley → Thomas). Getting it wrong costs Naomi trust and exposes the wrong crew member.
  • Episode 4 — triage. Triage order Naomi → Riley → Akin is the only sequence that doesn't drop her trust.
  • Episode 5 — loadlifter. If she was the Ep 2 ridge-climber, she is the rescue target. The QTE chain decides her life.
  • Episode 6 — Bearings monologue. Delivers the lore beat that connects premonitions to the variant biomass.
  • Episode 7 — defence wave. Survives at +1 trust automatically.

Survival route

  1. Episode 1. No direct Naomi check, but the supportive captain-defence option keeps overall morale high.
  2. Episode 2. Send Riley up the ridge — Naomi stays in the safer slot.
  3. Episode 3. Back Naomi verbally during the variant reveal. +1 trust.
  4. Episode 4. Triage order Naomi → Riley → Akin.
  5. Episode 5. If Naomi is the rescue target, land all five loadlifter inputs.
  6. Episode 6. Believe the premonitions during her monologue.
  7. Episode 7. +1 trust passes the defence wave automatically.

What happens if Naomi dies

  • Episode 6 monologue is skipped — Akin delivers a stripped-down version instead.
  • Curator's Cut loses the three Naomi-perspective scenes; the lab sequence still plays but without her commentary.
  • Ending A remains technically reachable but with reduced trophy/narrative payoff.
  • Trophy impact — Crew Manifest is voided immediately.

FAQ

Who is Naomi in Directive 8020?

Can Naomi die in Directive 8020?

Yes. Naomi can die in Episodes 2, 5, or 7. The Episode 5 loadlifter QTE is her primary death gate if you sent her up the ridge in Episode 2 instead of Riley.

How do you keep Naomi alive in Directive 8020?

Send Riley (not Naomi) up the antenna ridge in Episode 2, back Naomi during the variant reveal, follow the Naomi → Riley → Akin triage order in Episode 4, and clear the loadlifter QTE chain in Episode 5.

Who voices Naomi in Directive 8020?

Naomi is performance-captured by a returning Supermassive cast member confirmed in the February 2026 story trailer. Full cast credits are on the cast page.
