Directive 8020 Multiplayer & Co-op

How online co-op (Shared Story) works in Directive 8020, plus the difference between Shared Story, Movie Night and the solo campaign.

Directive 8020 ships with two multiplayer modes: Movie Night (local) and Shared Story (online). Shared Story is the headline mode and adds a unique online co-op trophy.

Shared Story setup

  1. Main menu → Shared Story → Host or Join.
  2. Each player has their own primary protagonist + the controller for whoever's on-screen at the time.
  3. Voice chat is supported via platform party; the game also has built-in voice for friend pairs.
  4. The host's save persists; the joiner gets the trophy on their account.

Co-op tips

  • Use voice chat — the QTE prompts barely give you time to react silently.
  • Pre-agree on the route. One player watches the save-everyone matrix; the other plays.
  • Latency matters in Episode 5. If the loadlifter QTE keeps failing, switch to wired LAN.

FAQ

Does Directive 8020 have multiplayer?

Yes — both local Movie Night (2–5 pass-the-pad) and Shared Story online co-op (2 players).

Is Directive 8020 online co-op cross-play?

Yes, between PC and Xbox; PS5 cross-play is enabled with PC. Cross-progression is not supported — saves stay on the host platform.

Can you do the save-everyone route in co-op?

Yes, but it's harder. The Episode 5 loadlifter chain splits the inputs between players, so latency and coordination matter. Most save-everyone runs are solo.
